Learn 2 Play Piano is a two CD combo package from Adventus, Inc., that includes Piano Suite Levels 1 and 2 as well as Ear Training Coach Levels 1 and 2. These are two distinct programs, one teaches playing piano/keyboard by reading music and the other by ear.

This program offers an impressive 14 games and 10 interactive learning areas however does not include video demonstrations and the material seems more appropriate for younger students than adults.

Ease of Use:  

Learn 2 Play Piano's Piano Suite contains 5 well-organized sections including Piano Player, Theory Thinker, Music Recorder, Games, and Profile. In the Piano Player section, you will find the database of all the songs featured in the software. These musical pieces list alphabetically but you can also search by category and difficulty. The lessons are pictures edited with some animation and dubbed audio added. They present the material in an easy to grasp manner and are color coded for difficulty. You are also able to increase or decrease the size of the notes for more comfortable viewing.

Feature Set:  

Learn 2 Play Piano comes with quality information and instruction. You are given options to modify the program's operations and lock certain features like the games so that you can control what a student works on. Also the program tracks user progress and provides information on what has been practiced and for how long. This applies to multiple users which the program is capable of tracking.

Ease of Installation:  

We did not have any difficulty installing this program.

Lesson Coverage:  

Learn 2 Play Piano covers all the basics of piano playing but doesn't go above and beyond to provide services for advanced playing. We sincerely enjoyed the Ear Training Coach CD that taught us how to identify intervals and the instruction in sight-reading.

Practice Options:  

One of the most enjoyable and effective practice tool presented by Learn 2 Play Piano is the games. We found these games to be educational as well as entertaining.

Using Learn 2 Play Piano you can record your own original compositions, and play any musical selection at varying tempos. Each song in the database plays the piano only or accompanying instruments only as you play along with an indicator following your position in the music.

Learn 2 Play Piano is a great help if you can't quite seem to figure out where your fingers should go, they give you an icon to click on that will display the correct finger positioning for whatever section of the piece you are working on.

Help/Support:  

Learn 2 Play Piano offers a FAQ section and email customer support on their webpage. A manual can be accessed from the program itself. The wait to get an email response from Learn 2 Play Piano took longer than we felt was reasonable.

Summary:  

Learn 2 Play Piano is a useful teaching tool for piano teachers and parents with younger children who are just beginning to learn the piano. It is easy enough for children to use and the games will spark and keep their interest. However, older students may not enjoy the games and may want to look at some of our higher-ranking projects.
